Every time I double click a GIF animation my system launches Internet Explorer. I deeply dislike most things Microsoft, but I especially dislike Internet Explorer. So in my fight against "the man" I made QuickGIF_R! A new default app for launching and viewing gif images. Turns out it works great! So great that when I showed a few friends they suggested I share this solution. So here it is! Your chance to fight the good fight and take back your GIFs!

##### Install #####

  1. Extract the exe from the .7z archive and place it where you want it to live for it's duration. I've placed mine at C:\
  2. Right click on a gif and choose "Open with" and "Choose another app".
  3. Check "Always use this app to open .gif files" then click "More apps"
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the list that appears and click "Look for another app on this PC"
  5. Navigate to the place where you left the .exe file and choose it.

From now on the GIF will open using QuickGIF_R.

##### Controls/Options #####

  • Scroll the mouse wheel up and down to zoom.
  • If you have no scroll wheel then you can zoom using +/- buttons on the keyboard.
  • Left and Right arrow keys will speed and slow the animation.
  • Escape key closes the application.
